At some point, you successfully installed a glass screen protector but now you need to know how to take it off. Maybe yours is cracked or scratched and you want to replace it with a brand new one without damaging your phone. Have no fear. Below is our simple, step-by-step guide on how remove a glass screen protector in no time:
Step 1: Assemble tools and prepare
Like any other project, having the right equipment for the job will make the whole process go a lot more smoothly. Fortunately, the recommended tools for this task can commonly be found in most households. Here's what you'll need:
- A toothpick
- A credit card or business card
- A hair dryer (optional)
- An alcohol wipe and microfiber cloth (optional)
Step 2: Lift the corner
Start on the top right corner of your iPhone and use your fingernail (carefully) or the toothpick to carefully lift the screen protector glass away from the screen. You only have to lift the protector off away from the screen just enough to slide a card underneath. If you're having trouble getting the toothpick under the glass, try using a hair dryer to heat up the surface of your screen, which will help loosen the adhesive. (It doesn't take much heat to help, so be careful not to overdo it.)
Step 3: Loosen the edges
Once you have a corner lifted, take a credit card or business card and insert it under the screen protector, about 1/2" toward the center of the phone. Next, slide the card around the entire perimeter of the iPhone until you return to the initial position. Repeat this process one additional time for good measure.
Step 4: Slowly remove
With the card still inserted at the top of the iPhone, slide the card all the way under the glass across the entire width of the iPhone. Slowly slide the card down towards the bottom of the phone, while simultaneously lifting the screen protector away from the screen. The key is to do this slowly as possible, as to not apply too much pressure to the glass (which may cause it to bend and crack, which could damage your phone).
Step 5: Finishing touches
Once you have successfully removed the screen protector, set it aside, and use an alcohol wipe and microfiber cloth to clean and dry your screen. Voilà!
